A “Pain au Chocolat” Like No Other in Paris

During your stay in Paris, if there is one thing you will find on every street corner, it is the pain au chocolat. Every morning, you will face the ultimate Parisian dilemma: croissant or pain au chocolat? It is the quintessential French breakfast or afternoon snack (le goûter)—a comforting symbol of childhood.

While there are hundreds of places to find a good one, today I want to show you one that stands out from the crowd.

The “Mini Baguette” Style

This specific pastry is elongated, looking more like a flaky mini-baguette than a traditional square roll. Its incredible lamination (the visible layers of dough) reminds me of the high-end pastries you find in Paris’s luxury “Palace” hotels… but this one only costs 2 euros!

As for the taste, it is simply divine. The chocolate is present but subtle (featuring one chocolate bar instead of the usual two). Above all, it is rich in butter and extremely indulgent. That crispy, golden crunch is absolutely irresistible.

Don’t Leave Without the Spread

I couldn’t resist picking up a jar of their house-made spread (pâte à tartiner). In many Parisian bakeries, you will find artisanal spreads that have nothing to do with the industrial versions found in supermarkets.

This one costs 10 euros, is made with hazelnuts and almonds, and is truly exceptional. The texture is thick rather than runny, letting you taste the tiny bits of roasted nuts. It is delicious on fresh bread or brioche.

Slip a jar into your suitcase—it makes the perfect edible souvenir from Paris!
